Derek looked down, eyebrows furrowing with worry until he realized it was just his thumb. "It's okay, buddy. It happens.." He offered him a gentle smile.

Ace smiled, holding his thumb close to his chest. "I want the mint kind with the chocolate chips in it. Can I?" He asked, looking up at him. He bit his lip.

"Of course." Derek ordered it, then a moose track for himself, and paid before handing Ace his and leading him over to a table, taking a seat across from him.

Ace took his seat, drawing a leg up under him. He licked his cone, looking out the window at the parking lot. "What's colors really like? All I see is shades. Are they pretty?"

"Kinda like people?" He asked quietly, licking his cone again as he looked over at him. One might think it odd someone unable to see color was blessed with such bright and beautiful eyes.

Derek chuckled. "Yeah, kinda. I guess you're right. I've never really thought about it that way." He smiled at him, licking carefully at his cone so it wouldn't drip.

Derek couldn't be happier that Ace seemed far more relaxed around him than he had been before, and was glad he was sctually smiling and talking to him. He reached for a napkin, holding it out before taking a bite of ice cream carefully from the top of his cone.

Ace couldn't help but draw back as Derek's hand came across the table. He eased up when he realized it was just a napkin, smiling and taking it from him. He wiped his hand, then his mouth. "Thank you." He said quietly.

Derek watched him draw away before relaxing and taking it. "Mm," He murmured as a usual response, smiling a bit crookedly once he was sure there was no ice cream in his teeth.

"Melting faster than you can eat t?" Derek teased, knowing he was no better off. Anything ither than meat was often difficult for him to eat without making a fool of himself.
