Connor shrugged. "S-sure.." He would buy as much time as he could before having to go home. Smiling at the little girl with Jascaar, he picked uneasily at a hole in the knee of ratty jeans, glanced up as their mother came in. He eyed her warily, but had a little more trust for women than men. "C-Connor," He mumbled, coughing softly and wincing. He touched his tender stomach, phone going off again, and grabbed it as he slid from the counter, shoulderblades made visible beneath his shirt with the action. It rose up some, revealing a nastily scabbed and scarred back before he pulled it down and wandered down the hall, his fathers screams over the phone probably evenly heard. "F-fuck off, you're not i-i-in charge of me," He snapped softly into the phone, coughing. "I'll come h-home whenever the hell I-I want. I'm not some sex t-toy dammit!"

"Nice to meet you," But she was no longer watching Connor. Instead, she kneeled down next to Sofie, talking about the cat. "I'm sorry, dear, but you know, we can't have a kitty." She spoke softly, fixing her little girl's pig tails. "Archer, is our guest staying for dinner?" Karrie asked, watching as Connor walked away to use the phone.
Archer was busy pouring the noodles into the strainer, and moving the sauce from the stove. "Uh, yeah.." He answered quickly. He moved quickly around the kitchen, grabbing plates and silverware.
"The bread! The bread!" His mom yelled frantically as if the house was on fire. She jumped over to the stove, prying it open. "Where's the oven mitt?"
"Mom! Calm down.. you act like I don't cook everyday.." Archer mumbled, tossing the mitt across the kitchen. "Sofie, go tell Connor that it's almost ready and wash up."
She nodded, her head going every which way except up and down. She bounced happily down the hall, still holding the kitten close. "Come, we need to wash up." Sofia peered up at Connor, showing her missing tooth grin.

Connor hung up halfway through his fathers shouting, leaning against the wall as he coughed. He ran a shaking hand through his hair. His last fix had been this morning, and it felt like to long, he needed his drugs. But he didn't dare with the little girl around, followed her down the hall to wash his scarred hands before walking back with her quietly.

Sofie sat Jascaar down before she climbed onto the toliet and then, onto the sink to wash her hands. She smiled at Connor when she was done, backing off the Connor. Her feet dangled over the edge as she slid down, toes wiggling inches away from the floor before she dropped. "He's really good at makin spatti." She siad, leaning over to pick the kitten back up.
When they made it back to the living room, Sofie placed the kitten near Connor's bookbag, "Sofie, did you wash your hands and then, pick up that kitten again?" Her mother's voice echoed across the room. Sofia nodded guiltly as she crawled up into her seat at the dinner table.
"She's fine." Archer chimmed as he brought the bread over to the table, spaghetti already on each individual plate. "What can I get ya'll to drink?" He asked as he went to get cups. "Juicce." Sofie begged.
"Water will be just fine." His mother answered. Her eyes back on Connor as she waited for him to sit. "So, Connor, do you go to school?"

Connor eyed their mother warily as she called Sofie out about the cat. Jascaar wasn't dirty or anything. Hell, he was still to young to injest anything but milk. He didn't say anything though, sitting down slowly. "J-just water..." He mumbled, coughing huskily into a thin arm before clearing his throat. He nodded at her words, not bothering explain that he was a second year junior and not even trying anymore. It was nothing but an escape from home now. Somewhere he could usually find sleep and better safety than running anywhere else. Because Jonathan wouldn't hurt him in front of the school's eyes, refused to let his abuse be put on trial. He shifted his weight, picking up his fork to push at his spaghetti, taking as small a bite as he could before reaching up to fix the faint eyeliner under one of his eyes.

"That's good. Schools important." She paused, watching as Archer balanced all four drinks in his arms. "You know, we moved here and I had doubts in Archer graduating. He's only made one friend, but I can see how that his. Poor boy stays in trouble," Her head shook disapprovingly. Her eyes flicked toward Sofie as she stood in her chair.
Archer sighed, handing out the drinks. "Sof, take a seat and eat." He mumbled, ignoring the words of his mom. Sofia stuck her tongue out in response, but settled down into her chair all the same. She picked up her fork and began to twirl it around in the spaghetti. "Anyone want bread?" He asked as he took a piece for himself.

Connor was careful not to scoff. Oh, if only she knew. He shook his head with the offer of bread, still picking at his barely touched dinner. He had no plans of eating it, but he had needed the excuse to stay, and wasn't going to say no and still hang around. His stomach growled, begging for the food.

Archer picked at his spaghetti, only glancing up when someone spoke. Sofie was already covered in spaghetti, and now she was wiping it all over her clothes. "Oh, Archer Mason! Look what your sister did. Now, she's going to need a bath." His mother snarled at him. It wasn't a secret that he was put on the back burner when his little sister was born, but he tried to not let it bother him.
"I'll give her a bath before bed." He answered before stuffing his mouth full.
"I don wanna bathhh," Sofie protested, her little fingers reaching out for a piece of bread. Karrie handed her one, smiling softly at her daughter. "You have to take a bath." Karrie said, looking toward Connor as if she had forgotten he was there. "Are you staying here tonight?"
Archer looked over at Connor, figuring the answer would be, 'no'. His eyes gazed over to his mom, and he sighed before picking up his piece of bread and taking a bite.

"I-it's not his fault sh-she wanted to make art with h-her food," Connor muttered absently. Despite not wanting to trust the guy, he hated how his mother was treating him. He pushed at his food again, and finally set his fork down, shaking his head. "I h-have to get home or my dad's gonna k-kill me..." Literally.

Karrie ignored the comment, going back to her meal without saying anything. His eyes flicked from Connor to his mother and then, back down to his food as he tried to finish quickly. "You want me to take you?" he asked between mouthfuls. Sofie pushed her plate away. "Done!" She chimmed as her feet landed on the ground. She made her way over to Connor's bookbag, and looked for Jascaar. She found him curled up next to it, and she sat down quietly. Her hand ran gently over his fur.

Connor glanced towards her as she scampered off, hesitant havig her so close to the drug filled bag. Normally he wouldn't take the offer for a ride considering how untaken-care-of the house was, and that Jon had no mercy. But it would be a long walk, and he owed people money and drugs, didn't need to be mugged right now. "Pl-lease.." He breathed, coughing hudkily into a bony fist before clearing his throat and glancing at Sofie again.

"Can I go?" Sofie asked, looking up from the cat. Archer shrugged as he picked up the empty plates. "You done? Or you wanna take some with you? Sof never eats leftovers.." His pitch was much lower now that his mother was home. Most of words came out mumbled or slurred. His mother eyed him warily as he cleared the table.
"If she goes, you better make sure nothing gets on that car. We didn't buy you a car so you could get it all dirty."
"It's already a piece of junk..." Archer spoke beneath his breath as he ran water over the dishes. "Go change, Sofie. I'll give you a bath when we get back. Make sure your dirty clothes go into the hamper this time." He smiled as she bounced off to her room. His mother left the table to go get ready for bed herself. "Do you want another bottle warmed up for Jascaar?"

Connor bit his lip, shaking his head as he was offered more food. He was even hesitant that the little girl wanted to go. She didn't need to see what kind of life he lived. But still he didn't say anything, wanted to ask Archer why he let his mom boss him around like that. But he himself was no better, so he kept his mouth shut as he pulled himself slowly to his feet.
"I-I'll get it.." Wandering to the living room, he grabbed the bottle and headed back into the kithen, a little more relaxed with this guy now that he realized he could relate. He opened the fridge warily, pulling the milk out and slipping some poudered formula from his back pocket. Tearing the package with his teeth, he mixed the two things in the bottle and put it in the microwave as he put the milk back.
Pulling the bottle out, he tested the heat, the. Set it by his things so Sofie could feed Jascaar when she was ready.

Sofie came sprinting down the hall with purple shorts and a bright pink shirt on. "Reeadyy," She sang as she came to a stop. She crouched down near Jascaar, picking him up in her arms again. Archer just shook his head at her outfit before cleaning the rest of the things off the table. "Archer, when you get back.. do the dishes!" His mom yelled from her room before the door closed.
He ran his hands through his hair as his eyes swaped between Connor and Sofia. "You guys ready?" he asked, grabbing his keys off the counter. Archie made his way to the door. She was right behind him with Jascaar and the bottle in her arms. "Archiee." She complained as the bottle dropped to the floor. He bent over and picked it up before he started his way to the car. Sofie followed close behind, trying to keep by Connor's side.

Connor managed to smile down at her faintly as he picked up the ratty backpack, following them outside quietly. He climbed into the passengers seat this time instead of sitting as far away from Archer like he had before. Running a hand through his hair, he scratched at his scarred throat some, coughing again as he gazed out the window.
He waited for Archer to pull out onto the main road before giving him directions to the house, knew it would be a shock when they got there, beer bottles, cigarettes and trash littering the yard, broken glass and a half splintered door from all the things Jon threw at him on his way out. As usual, he was terrified that he was going home, especially since Jon was clearly pissed. And the way he had been slurring over the phone, drunk.
