JULY 13TH OF 1953 - SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA Elainee had been sent to run errands for her mother, errands her nanny couldn't do because she was busy cleaning the house from top to bottom. She did a wonderful job of it, Lainee couldn't argue. She turned the corner, holding the dress draped over her arm close to her. She knew it was about to rain, and hoped she got home before she turned into a fish. She ducked into the bakery, looking around the sweets they had out before she walked over to the breads, grabbing a loaf of what her mother asked her to get. She brought it to the cashier, paying for it before she left with it tucked under her arm.

The streets were pretty calm, but only because of the drowsy weather. If the clouds parted and the sun came out, the streets would be filled with people running around. Cameron was doing his usual, combing through the streets to find the girl of his dreams. It had been three years since he had seen her last, and he didn't want it to reach four. "Oh, I'm sorry.." He said quickly as he bumped into someone.
Bending over, he picked up the loaf of bread that had fallen from the girl's hands. "I'm sorry.. I can buy you another one if you don't like smushed bread." Cameron looked the girl over, holding the bread out toward her.

Lainee looked up when the boy ran into her, taking the bread back from him. "No, sir. It's quite alright. It's wrapped and it's going into a bread pudding.." She said quietly, hoping it made him feel a little better. She checked to make sure the dress was still okay before she tucked the bread back under her arm. The boy seemed like he was looking for something, and she wasn't going to stop him.
"Have a blessed day." She said quietly, gently moving around him before she ducked into the small mom and pop shop on the corner to gather the ingredients for the pudding.

He offered a small smile, and his hand dropped by his side. "You too, ma'am." But Cameron didn't move. He just leaned against the building's window and dug into his pocket. The leather wallet he pulled out was torn and weathered. It had been his dads, but the picture on the inside was the most important he had. Flipping the wallet open, his finger traced over the picture. The picture was of a tiny little girl with eyes like him. Her tongue was sticking out like it was too big for her mouth, and the little hair she did have was curly. He sighed softly. The little girl would be about three now, and probably didn't even remember him. Cameron needed something to take his mind off of her, at least for awhile. His eyes trailed over to the shop the girl had disappeared into.

Lainee got what was on the list her nanny has given her, and tucked the bread into the bag the grocer gave her. She didn't know how her nanny carried around all these things without help, but she obviously did because Lainee wasn't the one to do it and her mom couldn't. Maybe she knew something Lainee didn't.
She hugged the brown bag close to her chest, reaching up to tuck a stray red curl behind her ear before she started out the door, thanking the older man who held it open for her. She started walking back towards home, glancing up at the sky and praying that the rain would hold off until she got home, just until she got home.

He watched as she left, shoved his wallet into his pocket, and contuined watching before he started after her. Cameron just needed something to pull him out of his psycho phase. It happened anytime he didn't have contact with someone else. He would get so wrapped up in finding his little girl, he would completely forget about anyone else. His index finger went out, tapping her on the shoulder before he moved to walk along beside her. "Do you need any help, ma'am?" He gave her a sincere smile, and matched her stride for stride.

She jumped a bit at the touch, not expecting for anyone to come up and speak to her, let alone the handsome boy who she'd literally ran into earlier. "If you wouldn't mind." She said quietly, her Irish accent still there despite living her life here. She hadn't grown out of it yet. She stopped to let him grab the bag before she carefully fixed the dress on her arm, hoping it wasn't wrinkled now.
"You were looking for something earlier, weren't you? Did you find it?" She asked, just for an excuse to look at him before she lowered her gaze, moving closer to him as a woman with her child passed them. "What a beautiful baby.." She said quietly, looking back at it before she stared around the corner, reaching up to fix the loose tie her hair was pulled up in.

He took the bag in his arms, her accent making him smile. It was pretty cute, she was pretty cute. Adjusting the bag in his arm, his eyes glanced her way as she asked him something. "Oh, no.. I figured I'd come and see if you needed help. It was time to take a break anyway." Cameron smiled sheepishly.
A small frown passed over his face as the woman with her baby passed. But he couldn't let himself leave the woman to carry everything by herself, it'd be wrong. "Do you usually do all the shopping by yourself?" His eyebrow rose curiously as he looked in her direction.

She looked over at him when he said he'd stopped to see if she needed help. She couldn't help thinking it was rare to run upon anyone who was willing to stop what they were doing to help someone who might need some assistance. "Well, that's kind of you. Thank you." She said with a smile, running her hand slowly over the dress.
"No. My nanny usually does it. But she was cleaning today and my mother really wanted a bread pudding and she needed her dress. So they sent me to come get it." She said with a nod, looking over at the boy again before she looked in front of her. She knew better than to stare at people, no matter how attractive they might be.

He gave a nod in response to her compliment. It was just something he did naturally, he was never one to just let someone struggle. "You have a nanny?" A faint smile crossed over his lips, but he kept his eyes forward, didn't want to run into someone again. "I'm not trying to make fun of you.. It's just strange." Cameron added shortly after. He knew a thing or two about strange, seeing as how he was a vampire stuck on a kid he had only met once. He glanced her way once more, eyes moving over each freckle on her face before returning to in front of him.

Lainee couldn't help thinking that everyone thought it was strange that she had a nanny. It wasn't common in America. "She's not really so much a nanny as she is the hired help. Because my mother can't walk. But I always called her my nanny." She said quietly, looking over at him. She looked back in front of her, then turned to walk up one of the driveways to a moderate sized house. She opened the door, leading the boy in. "Hello, Rosie." She said with a smile to the woman dusting the pictures.
"Hello, Miss Elainee. Who's your friend?"
"He offered to help me with the bags since they're heavy."
"Well, that's kind of him." She said, and Elainee nodded, walking into the kitchen.

"It's cute," He offered, "That you call her your nanny." Cameron quickly added, hiking the bag up as it began to slip. He followed her up to the house, his eyes looking the house over. He hadn't had a permant home in awhile, mostly chose to get a hotel room. But he had news that his lost daughter was here and so he chose to rent an apartment. He only paid month to month, and the apartment was pretty bare.
Cameron followed her inside, smiling as his eyes passed over the woman dusting. "Hello, ma'am." He lifted the brown bag up some to show her. "My name's Cameron. It's nice to meet you." Another smile pulled at his lips as he balanced the bag in one arm and extended his other to shake hands.

Rosie smiled, holding her hand out to the boy. "Nice to meet you too, young man." She said, then looked over to the kitchen. "How is it you come home with the cute and polite ones?"
"He's a rarity, I guess." Lainee said with a shrug, hanging the dress up by the window so it could air out any wrinkles it had there. She walked back to get the bag from the boy and unload it in the kitchen. "Would you like a glass of tea?" She asked, looking over at him before she tucked away the empty bag and grabbed a knife to cut the bread into bits. "Or water. Or juice. Or coffee."

A bashful smile crossed his lips, and his eyes shifted to Elaine as she took the bag. Cameron walked after, chewing his lip as he walked into the kitchen. He stayed off to the side and out of her way, watching her as she went. "Mm, water will be fine. Thanks." He caught her gaze and glanced over to the other side of the kitchen. "Where's your mom?" He asked, assuming Rosie was her nanny.

She went to fix him a glass of water, wiping her hands off on a dish towel. She walked over to the island, sitting the glass down for him. "She's probably out on the back patio or in the library." She said quietly. But one look at her mother and father would tell anyone she wasn't their's either. She walked back to the bread, cutting it carefully as her mom came into the kitchen, Rosie pushing her wheelchair for her. Her hair was dark and straight, her eyes nearly as black as her hair.
"Who's your friend?" She asked, and Elaine handed her a piece of bread she wasn't going to use.
"Cameron." She said quietly, and started cutting the bread again. "Did you want raisins in this?"
"Raisins sounds nice, but you know Rosie doesn't like them."
"I'll make Rosie's without it."
"Are you staying for dinner, Cameron?" Her mother asked, looking over at the boy.
