Derek shook his head slowly. "No.." He murmured. "Mainly because the teeth and...I guess I've always just been a loner, for the most part. Never have much reason to smile."

"But you look nice when you smile.." He said quietly, his blue eyes watching Derek. Something about him was interesting, made Ace curious about what he really was. If he could learn to be okay, couldn't Ace?

Derek's lips tilted up some. "Thank you..." He murmured. "So do you. It's nice when you don't look so scared." He patted his shoulder reasurringly.

Derek chuckled. "I'm happy you're glad." He wrinkled his nose at him playfully. "Now then. You want to stay here loger? Or we can go get ice cream or something if you like."

Derek nodded. "Of course not, no peanuts." He took the stick gently so he wouldn't startle him, and set it aside before patting his back and standing slowly, offering him a hand up.

Ace looked up at him before he took his hand, standing slowly. He let go of his hand, dusting off his jeans before he put his hands in his pockets, lowering his gaze as he walked.

Derek crossed his arms over his chest, walking with him back to the truck and letting him in before climbing in on the other side and starting it up. He yawned, stretching carefully as he buckled in and started towards the ice cream shop.

Ace climbed into the truck, pulling his seat belt on. He looked out the window, messing with his thumb. But it wasn't until it started bleeding that he realized he was hurting himself. He held it tight in his hand, afraid to even look at it.

Derek looked over at him as he pulled into the lot and parked, letting him out before holding the shop door open for him. There was an older couple inside but it was otherwise empty.

Ace followed him into the ice cream shop, quickly ducking into the bathroom to wash off his hands. He walked back out with a paper towel pressed to his thumb, looking over at Derek. "I didn't realize I hurt myself.."
